Hi Pixelers. I'm announcing that Pixel OS will be recieving a re-do internally and on the surface too. This is all done to keep us in line with all the latest standards in Linux. So I am about to Introduce these changes to keep you in the know.
We're moving over to the Xfce desktop
While there was nothing wrong with LXDE as a desktop, it is no longer a good idea to use it anymore, mainly becuase it is being discontinued. Naturally, we would go to LXQt to save the hassle of installing another flavour of Ubuntu, but we need to build on 18.04 anyway and it would also mean that we would be able to keep the installation process the same. Here are a few pics of the default experience
We are switching over to Xubuntu
Lubuntu is a good Linux distro as an operating system, but as a base for another distro, not the best. So, as we're moving over to the Xfce desktop, we're also moving to Xubuntu mainly to save the hastle of installing Xfce on top of LXDE and having to faff about changing code just to get it to use Xfce as the default.
We are basing Pixel OS on the development builds of Ubuntu
We are building it off the dev builds mainly to make us at least semi-rolling release, to keep in line of our be fast philosophy(being fast with everything).
